Walmart Ready For Permission to Use Drones For Delivery

Walmart, which is the world's largest retailer by revenue, has applied to US regulators for permission to use drones for delivery, pickup and checking inventory.

Walmart had been initially testing the drones indoors, which have been made by China's SZ DJI Technology Co Ltd. Now, they hope to test outside.

Using drones will help running the business easier and more convenient. These drones will do inventory of warehouses and speed up distribution of goods. In addition to using them at their stores and warehouses,they wish to use them for deliveries to their stores, as well as to their customers by delivering to their homes.

To do this, Walmart needs permission from the Federal Aviation Authority. Then they will research into this and test out how the system is working and what needs to be tweaked and improved, as well as do risk analysis. WalMart spokesman Dan Toporek said the company would move quickly to deploy drones depending on its tests and regulations.

Other companies such as Amazon and Google Inc have already taken this initiative.

We've all seen those movies, taking place in a dystopian world where machines somehow gained sentience and took over. Giant robots and machines controlling us, the way we controlled them. Technology is constantly evolving and it seems that every day there is something new. With how exponentially the world is advancing and thus, making our lives much, much easier, one sometimes wonders if all this is going to backfire on us?

Listening to all this, it does sound very bleak and perhaps also rather dramatic. But while giant robots with brains may not be a concern, the technology that so benefits us, is also bringing with it some cons. Negative impact of technology is not simply a fear of the future, it's something that's happening now.

With increased awareness nowadays, the general public also aware of it. In a survey conducted of fifteen hundred adults, done by Chapman University of Orange, California, out of the top five things Americans fear, three are technology related!

While corruption may take the top spot, Americans are increasingly worried about cyber terrorism, followed the invasion of privacy brought upon by tracking by both the corporate industry and the government. It is obvious privacy is incredibly important, and a future where one's every little detail is observed is indeed terrifying.

Microsoft Introduces its First Laptop

After decades as a household name in the technology world, 2015 is finally the year Microsoft launches its first own laptop, the Surface Book. It will be running the latest version of Windows, Windows 10.

The Surface Book will function as both a laptop and a tablet, as its keyboard and screen can be removed from one another. Microsoft's latest product is reportedly twice as fast as Apple's Macbook and will hit stores October 26th, priced at $1499.

Coming towards the Surface Book's features, it has a 13.5 inch display with 267 pixels per inch. The screen can also be folded behind the keyboard to function as a notepad thanks to an innovative design by Microsoft.

In addition, the Surface Book will run on i5 or i7 Intel processor and is light at just 3.5 pounds.

Microsoft also launched other products, apart from the Surface Book, including a line of Lumia smartphones, a new Surface Pro tablet and an updated version of its wearable fitness tracker, Microsoft Band. All of these, like the Surface Book, will be running on Windows 10.

Facebook and Studying? Social Media Giant Provides Free Education Software

With over a billion Facebook users, this is a household name you would literally have to be living under a rock to not know. And now, Facebook has decided to venture into the education business for which they will be teaming up with the non profit Summit Public Schools.

The basic idea is that course content and evaluations like tests, quizzes and exams should be online. Meanwhile, this will give the teachers more time to interact with the students in the classroom and teach them about the more practical applications of what they are studying.

Some people have raised concerns about privacy. Many are not happy with the privacy of Facebook and are worried about students' personal data.

There is also the worry that children are already spending too much time glued to the computer. Do we really want to increase that?

Facebook has said this will not be linked to its social media network.

Well, this just sounds like a typical day for most of us. Technology is advancing day by day, and why shouldn't we use the many benefits it has to offer, making our lives much easier.

But, could these innocent enough tasks be bringing deadly consequences for you? A new study shows that smartphones, tablets and laptops could give you skin cancer.

The crux of the study is that these devices could reflect light, thereby, exposing you more to harmful wavelengths that cause cancer. The study was done by Mary E. Logue from the University of New Mexico in Alberquerque and Dr Barret J. Zlotoff.

Most of us have heard of the harms of tanning, and the researchers think that these devices may reflect light like tanning reflectors.

The study was conducted by using a mannequin, wearing a UVA/B light meter and different objects were placed in front of it including an iPhone 5, different iPad models, Macbooks, magazines and a kindle. These devices were placed one by one on an empty music stand.

At a distance of 16.5 inches from the light meter, the magazine increased UV exposure by 46%, the Macbook by 75% and an iPad 2 by a whopping 85%.

UV rays have been linked to skin cancer and many know prevention is better than the cure.

Limit device usage to the indoors and when outside, make sure you are wearing sunscreen on all exposed areas.

Android M Has a Name: Google's Next Update is Marshmallow

Keeping up with their tradition of making all of you sugar lovers salivate by naming their updates after sugary treats (alphabetically of course), Google has revealed the name of its next update, known previously as only Andriod M at the I/O conference held by the company earlier this year in May.

This will be available to users in the fall, and will bring with it the following new features:

• Android Pay: this service will let the users pay for items, both online and in physical stores, using their phones. 
• Now on Tap for Google Now: this will give you relevant information based on what you are doing. 
• It will feature other improvements in the operating system..

While 80% of smartphone users have Android as the operating system, only about 18% are using its latest version: Lollipop.

Ever watched matrix??? All the machines connected and massive warehouses??? So the Internet is like that but less creepy. There is an endless network of servers that store all the info, the Internet can possibly have.

• Images
• Audio
• Videos

The way to access those servers is through a browser. Probably, you are using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox since they are the most common.

We call the text written there the “Address”, yes like your home but this time it’s for computers. When you type your favorite website at the bar, what happens is that your browser goes to the server where the address is hosted.

The servers send the info has, but in lines of code almost nobody can understand. That’s your browser job to translate that code in the text, images, videos and so on you’re looking for.
