Google Maps: New updates for android users

All those who are passionate about travelling and love to visit new places must have taken the advantage of Google Maps at least once in their life. Stranded in a land full of strangers, speaking their native languages, you must have come to a point where you had to consider google maps your best companion or your only chance of survival. If you include yourself in the above mentioned list of travel lovers then we definitely have a good news for you. If you thought the offline navigation system was very handy then the new update of the app will blow your mind off. Especially for those who love to plan long trips with their families this cool new feature will bring ease in their road trips.

Google Maps has introduced a hip new detour feature. Now you can easily side-track your long road trips to get gas, food, or even do a little shopping. It's quick, simple and super useful. If you want to discover new places slightly off of your current path it is now possible with the new updated version of the app. There are four pre-selected options to choose from: gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, and coffee shops, along with a search button which can be used to find any other place of your liking or convenience. The search results appear on the overview map along with names and how much time it will add to your route. This new feature is also a great budget helper. For Instance, if you've chosen to look at gas stations, you'll even see the current prices in the callout boxes. You can also use this feature via voice command which makes your drive easier and safer.

According to a blogpost by Google Maps Product Manager, Aditya Dhanrajani, “When you’re driving in navigation mode and you get that call from your spouse to pick up some more milk on your drive home or if you’re on a road trip and want to find a great restaurant option along your route, simply tap the magnifying glass at the top right corner of the screen.”

Searching for a new stop along your path will not affect your navigation process at all. So that is one less worry for you. Places you select through this interface can be removed or replaced and your original trip will resume from your current position. Overflow button gives you an option to remove the quick stop you selected. Instead if you are using a dropdown from the search button you can both remove and replace the quick stop with a new one.

This update will shortly be introduced for android users. However the company still has not provided any insight on when it will become available for iOS users.
